Over the past decade, more than two dozen US states have considered so-called “Ag Gag” laws to counter animal activist exposés on farms. Only seven remain in force.

As the United States plays the hokey pokey with Ag Gag, our panel of legal and academic experts will offer perspectives on what’s at stake in Canada.

Popularized by journalist Mark Bittman in 2011, the term Ag Gag has come to represent a host of different kinds of laws enacted to restrict actions of animal activists on farms. But what does Ag Gag really mean and what are the trends in Canada? Do these laws outlaw employee whistleblowing or just unlawful trespass? Could they restrict legitimate law enforcement activities of animal protection officers? Do these laws increase or decrease trust in the farming industry?

Our panel of Canadian legal and academic experts will demystify Ag Gag and field your questions to illuminate what it could mean for animals in your province.
