Voters are casting ballots in three states today with races that could have national implications.
In Florida, Republicans are choosing a nominee for Governor. Trump-backed Congressman Byron Donalds is the Republican frontrunner. The Democratic frontrunner is Alex Vindman, who you might remember as the retired Army lieutenant colonel who raised concerns about President Trump's 2019 call with Ukraine.
In Alaska, there are two Republican Senate candidates with the name Dan Sullivan on the ballot. One is the incumbent looking for a 3rd term. The other is a retired teacher who is fending off allegations that he is a Democrat plant.
And in Wyoming, it's a historic primary. The state hasn't had an open race for governor, U.S. Senate and U.S. House seat all at the same time in 32 years.
100,000 people still don't have power across Hawaii after Tropical Storm Lala over the weekend. That's an improvement from yesterday, when 200,000 people were without power.
The storm downed trees and caused intense flash floods from Waikiki to the Big Island. Some communities were trapped by washed out roads and debris on the roadway.
Hawaii Gov. Josh Green says in spite of one death, it could have been a lot worse.
"The most important thing is we didn't see significant loss of life," Green said. "Some people have struggled because we haven't had services and some people continue to struggle if they don't have power in their homes, or if they have to tend to family matters."
About 100 homes were damaged or washed away on the Big Island. But Green says he saw many other homes survive and notes bridges weren't damaged as much as expected. Federal officials have pledged to help in the recovery efforts.
And the House Ethics Committee is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Democratic Congressman Jimmy Gomez, the probe includes reviewing allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with a staff member.
In June, sources said an investigation was underway and at the time, Gomez admitted to making what he called personal mistakes years ago, which he said hurt his wife and his family. But he said he did not violate any laws or any House ethics rules.
