The Meditating Philosopher | After Socrates' Ecology of Practices : Lectio Divina | Episode 6 @TheMeditatingPhilosopher | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 18 minutes ago.
In Episode 6 John shares many insights into the imaginal as a part of the psyche/soul that can help us move towards our aspirational selves as well as open up aspects of the world to us in profound and real ways.
_______
Lectio Divina
Context: Using the propositional in service of the propositional. Stick with 1 or 2-3 books. Change from consuming information to being drawn into transformation.
Lectio (Reading) - Pick a small passage, read it out loud, find something that really grabs you.
What echoes?
What resonates with you?
Savor that.
Even chant or reread it a few times, letting associations form (in you).
Meditation (Reflection) -Imaginally engage with it.
Oratio (Speaking) - Talking to the author.
Mindsight him/her.
What is the state of mind that would produce that part of the text?
What is the perspective?
What is it like to be like that?
Realize it, play with it, orient towards it.
Presencing the perspective, internalizing.
Contemplatio (Contemplation) - Try to see the world as they would see it.
Do it with another related text, making them sing even more together.
_______
If you enjoy this practice, here's more of John talking about it from a course he taught on cultivating wisdom: youtu.be/CLnVwIcIFFg
He gives some great examples and has almost an hour of teaching and insights!
