In this video tutorial from 2Dgameartguru.com I will show you how to create complex-looking designs with simple base shapes.
This video explains how to break apart a design into its core elements and assemble something complex using compound shapes. Affinity Designer doesn't have a shape builder like Adobe's Illustrator. It has compound shapes though, that allow you to create complex shapes while keeping the components separate and editable - unlike Boolean operations. This is an easy and versatile way to create complex designs. The number 8 in this sample is made up of nothing more than 3 different-sized circles - and a bunch of duplicates of those.

Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Inkscape with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.
