Ready to create stunning, next-gen holograms in Unreal Engine 5? Take your VFX skills to the next level with this comprehensive tutorial on building a dynamic, multi-layered sci-fi hologram material and effect from scratch!
We're not just making a simple transparent material. We're building a complete effect packed with professional features. You'll learn how to create iconic, scrolling scan lines, a jarring vertex glitch effect for that classic sci-fi distortion, and a mesmerizing opacity reveal to make your holograms appear and disappear in style.
The real magic happens when we integrate a custom Niagara particle system, cleverly contained entirely inside your mesh, bringing the hologram to life with internal energy. We'll also cover crucial techniques like backface culling to give it that authentic, hollow projection feel. By the end, you'll have a fully customizable and game-ready hologram effect!
🎓 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
Dynamic Scan Lines: Create fully controllable, scrolling scan lines across your mesh.
Vertex Glitch Effect: Implement a procedural world-position-offset glitch for that classic data corruption feel.
Smart Niagara Particles: Build a Niagara system that spawns and traps particles only within the volume of your mesh.
Opacity Reveal: Design a cool, procedural wipe effect for the hologram's appearance.
Backface Culling: Use a two-sided material correctly to create that hollow, projected look.
Full Material Graph Setup: A complete, step-by-step guide through the entire material creation process.

Material Transition effect or Material burn effect. In this shader, I will show you how to transition from one texture to another. This can be used to make various effect for example a burn effect. Where a wood burn into charcoal and you will be also able to see the flame in the middle. This effects are similar to my planar dissolve effect and my disintegration effect. We will create a simple material function with the 3 color blend node to achieve this effect.
