Updated YouTube Terms of Service:
(For the Countries other than United States, these new terms will be effective in mid-year 2021).
* YouTube will show ads on brand safe videos even if your channels are not in YPP. This is to help advertisers to connect with their audiences & grow their businesses.
* Any revenue payments made to the creators in U.S. are now be treated as royalties from a Us Tax perspective. For creators outside of the U.S., more details will be provided in 2021 as the terms become available in their countries.
On 18th November 2020 YouTube has come up with big updates to YouTube terms of service. As written in the YouTube blog news say, "These new terms will be effective in countries outside of the United States in mid-year 2021". For the creators in U.S, the updated terms of service has already rolled out on 18th November 2020. Unlike in the past, YouTube ads will be shown in the videos whose channels are not even in the YouTube partner program. YouTube will gradually place ads on brand safe videos. However, YouTube will not pay any revenue to the creators whose channels are not in the YPP.
In other words, if you have not applied for YPP or not met the YPP eligibility criteria your videos will show ads but there is no creator revenue share. You can apply for YPP once you hit 4000 public watch hours and 1000 subscribers in the last 12 months. Your channel will also get reviewed to make sure it follows YouTube monetization policies.
Any revenue payments made the creators in us will now be treated as royalties from a U.S tax perspective. According to YouTube News update says, "Google will withhold taxes from these payments if it is required by law. U.S. creditors will generally be unaffected by these withholding taxes as long as they provide valid tax documentation in Adsense". For the creators outside U.S, more details will be given in 2021.
