I’ve been testing Luminar Neo to see whether it can realistically replace my Lightroom / Camera Raw workflow for landscape photography.
In this video I edit one of my recent images from the west coast of Ireland, The goal of this test was simple: could Luminar Neo handle the core editing tasks most photographers actually use, without the ongoing subscription that comes with Adobe software?
Rather than focusing on an endless list of advanced tools, I approach this the same way I approach every edit on my channel, exposure adjustments, colour refinement, contrast, detail, and subtle local adjustments to guide the viewer through the scene.
Throughout the video you’ll see clear before-and-after comparisons on screen, so you can judge the results for yourself. When demonstrating certain tools, I briefly increase the strength so the effect is easy to see, then dial it back to achieve the final natural-looking result.
I also take a look at how Luminar Neo fits into the wider Skylum ecosystem, including how the software works across desktop and Luminar Mobile, allowing photographers to make adjustments on the go if that suits their workflow.
For many photographers, editing requirements are fairly straightforward. If you don’t rely on cloud storage, mobile syncing, or a large suite of extra services, then a one-time purchase model like Luminar Neo may be a practical alternative to Adobe’s ongoing subscription.
