Let's talk about the Adi language.
Adi language.
Adi is a Tibeto-Burman language belonging to the Tani branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family and is spoken primarily by the Adi people of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. It is distributed mainly across the districts of Upper Siang, Siang, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, and Shi Yomi, with smaller populations in Namsai and neighboring areas. The language consists of several closely related regional and clan-associated varieties that are generally mutually intelligible and together form part of the larger Tani linguistic continuum.
The Adi dialect continuum in Arunachal Pradesh consists of many clan varieties: Minyong, Padam, Shimong, Bokar, Pasi, Bori, Pangi, Ramo, Pailibo, Karko, Komkar, Ashing, Milang, Dalbing, and Tangam. In official census data, these are grouped under the "Adi" umbrella term.
Adi is traditionally an oral language with a rich heritage of myths, genealogies, ritual chants, epics, and folklore, which have played a central role in preserving historical memory and cultural identity. Linguistically, Adi is characterized by predominantly agglutinative morphology, extensive use of suffixes, and a basic subject–object–verb word order typical of many Tibeto-Burman languages. In recent decades, written forms based mainly on the Latin script have been developed for educational and literary purposes, and efforts have been made to document and standardize the language.
