We add texture to miniatures because real-world surfaces aren’t smooth or the same. Different materials have different visual looks and details; some are worn, layered, scratched, dusty, or pitted.
When everything on a model has the same smooth finish, it can all blend visually. But once you introduce texture, different materials start to read differently.
Here, we demonstrate how using some simple basecoats and enamel washes, combined with soft pressing to achieve these results.
