GuiltyFeat | #AccidentalAuthors Announcement and the Rules @GuiltyFeat | Uploaded May 2023 | Updated October 2024, 3 minutes ago.
An #accidentalauthor is someone I have read kinda by accident. It's not a reflection on the author. It has more to do with how I curate my reading and how I have sometimes fallen back on authors I have read rather than trying a new author.
On the positive side there is some value in reading around an author to understand themes and idiosyncrasies which may only become apparent after reading more than one work.
So #accidentalauthors are paradoxically both a sign of laziness AND diligence.
The Rules
1. To qualify as an #accidentalauthor you must have read three or more books by this author.
2. These books cannot ALL be part of the same series.
You can see my original video discussion on #accidentalauthors here - youtu.be/vwcSPqaRpzk
An accidental author may be one of your favourite all-time writers - Jane Austen, Zadie Smith, Philip K. Dick - but they may also tell us something about your reading habits beyond your favourites, about how you choose a book and how we revisit past successes or, at least, past non-disasters.
Here are some earlier deep dives I have done on different authors:
Jhumpa Lahiri - youtu.be/cC8892ozZs8
Martin Amis - youtu.be/fNgSTkGot4k
James Ellroy - youtu.be/YRgxIxcSc5Q
George Saunders - youtu.be/18lCdyJm8jY
I hope some of you will share your #accidentalauthors with short videos, as I think this will be a way to shine a light on some of the less talked about writers on BookTube and talk about books that are sometimes forgotten.
