Released on XTRMNTR in 2000, “Accelerator” captured Primal Scream at their most immediate and ferocious.
Produced by Primal Scream and Brendan Lynch, then mixed by My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, the track stripped rock ’n’ roll down to pounding drums, overloaded guitars, feedback and Bobby Gillespie’s urgent vocal. Where much of XTRMNTR collided with techno, dub and electronic experimentation, “Accelerator” delivered that same aggression through pure velocity and noise.
Released as a single in September 2000, “Accelerator” would also become the final single issued by Creation Records — closing the label’s history with one of Primal Scream’s most uncompromising recordings.
