Build this simple AC induction motor. Uses no brushes or permanent magnets. Rotor is an aluminum cylinder and stator consists of 2 AC powered electromagnets. The alternating fields of the electromagnets induce eddy currents in the conductive cylinder. These eddy currents induce their own magnetic fields in the rotor interacting with the stator fields. A capacitor shifts the phase of one of the coils and the summing of both fields results in a displacing alternating magnetic field, dragging the rotor.
