Absolute I is an alabaster sculpture by French contemporary artist Yann Guillon.
The sculpture reveals a subtle interplay of shades, curves and hollows that evoke movement and organic forms. Depending on the viewing angle, the work changes its silhouette, offering an always renewed visual experience. Driven by an abstraction imbued with figurative suggestions, this sculpture explores an essential form that suggests life without ever representing it literally.
Yann Guillon, a French sculptor and graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, devotes a significant part of his work to the representation of the human body, particularly the body in motion. Figures of athletes and dancers thus occupy a central place in his work. Captured in the midst of exertion, these silhouettes accentuate tensions and twists to convey the energy and the element of mystery inherent in every individual. The sometimes-raw appearance of the surfaces preserves the spontaneity of the gesture and the vitality of the form. His work is, however, not limited to any single style or material: direct carving and certain explorations into abstraction bear witness to an open artistic inquiry.
The dimensions given are those of the stone sculpture without the base.
Sculpture dimensions: 42 cm H x 19 cm L x 19 cm D. Base dimensions: 10.5 cm H x 25 cm L x 15 cm D. Total dimensions (including stem and base): 54 cm (H) x 25 cm (W) x 19 cm (D).
