Light’n’Lines No.28 is an abstract painting by contemporary German artist Doris Marten.
Doris Marten’s work explores the visual effects created by the harmony between light and colour. As in other series the lines and the light are the main components of the paintings. But the series Light’n’Lines is enriched by a temporal notion which sheds light on the artist’s previous works. The raw material of this series is time, crucial to the development of the work. The parallel lines which constitute the painting, all identical, personify the temporal dimensions (past, present, future) during the creative process. Continually exploring the possibilities of colour, the artist bestows a metaphysical dimension on her works.
With the simple use of lines Doris Marten explores the perception of colours and their influence on each other. Lines reveal colours individually and bring to life the effect of colours upon one another. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light. She views time as a veritable production material, a necessary part of the work’s development during the creative process.
