Flying high over the Downtown Chicago skyline, with an endless rush of Metra commuter trains, Amtrak regional trains, and BNSF freight trains in early to mid 2025.
We start on the north side of Downtown, at the throat tracks of the Ogilvie Transportation Center. Home to the Union Pacific North, Northwest, and West lines, these ex-Chicago and Northwestern commuter lines are also busy with action during the morning and afternoon rush peak hours.
Next, we'll move to the South side of Downtown Chicago, next to the Amtrak and Metra coach yards. Here you'll see some of the Heritage Corridor, SouthWest Service, Amtrak Midwest, and BNSF freight trains traveling to and from Chicago. Aerial views of the 1913 Pennsylvania Railroad lift bridge over the Chicago River are featured.
To wrap things up, we'll fly over the now closed 16th street interlocking tower on the Rock Island District line. This tower is set to be demolished in the near future, lots of history here! Additionally, I included some aerial views of the switching and yard operations at the Metra BNSF line coach yard.
