Indian Air Force fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who became widely known after being captured in Pakistan following the 2019 aerial combat between India and Pakistan, has reportedly taken premature retirement from the IAF after 22 years of service.
The former Group Captain and Vir Chakra awardee is expected to begin a new chapter in aviation as a commercial pilot. According to reports, Varthaman joined Goa-based regional airline FLY91 in August.
FLY91 began operations in March 2024 and currently operates six ATR 72-600 aircraft, with Goa and Hyderabad serving as its two bases.
