A major question has emerged over the reliability of Delhi Police’s Facial Recognition System (FRS) after an Indian Express investigation found that at least 25 people flagged as having criminal records at the Jantar Mantar protest were actually in jail at the time.
Delhi Police had told the Supreme Court that its FRS identified 2,873 people with criminal antecedents during the July 20–26 protest. According to the police affidavit, 2,402 were identified through the biometric database Crime Kundli, while 471 were identified through criminal records.
