Along Loco Gulch lies the tungsten and iron mine of the Black Pearl. Discovered in 1914 by William Conners, high-grade tungsten ore was produced from 1915 until 1935. It was all surface work drifts, and the ore was hand sorted.
In 1951, the mine was under new ownership, and a road was built in 1953. The mine was closed and abandoned in 1956.
