A British Airways Airbus A350-1000 departing Las Vegas for London lost one of its landing-gear wheels shortly after takeoff during the climb-out phase. Video footage shows sparks near the landing gear as the aircraft became airborne, followed by the wheel separating as the gear was retracted.
Despite the loss, the aircraft continued across the Atlantic and landed safely in London. This is a great example of how commercial aircraft are designed with redundancy — and how pilots are trained to handle abnormal situations calmly and methodically.
