God established a regular time of liberation for His people Israel, a great Jubilee every fifty years to free captives and debtors. Jesus situated His own ministry within the proclamation of a definitive Jubilee of salvation for the whole world. The Church has responded to this heritage by instituting her own Jubilee celebrations, which offer us a time of celebration and mercy.
