On July 31, 1987 a powerful and devastating tornado ripped through the eastern part of Edmonton, and parts of neighbouring Strathcona County. The tornado peaked at F4 on the Fujita scale and remained on the ground for an hour, cutting a swath of destruction 30.8 kilometres in length and up to 1.3 kilometres wide in some places. The tornado caused over 337 million dollars in property damage, injured more than 300, and look 27 lives, making it one of the worst natural disasters in Alberta history.
This documentary was produced by CFRN Edmonton in July, 1988 to mark the 1st anniversary of the disaster.
