Something is growing in the heart of Gothenburg. A data centre – usually known for servers and blinking lights – is quietly helping grow herbs and vegetables.
This unusual partnership brings together Greenhouse Living Architecture Company, Gothenburg Energy and the City of Gothenburg to test whether waste heat from the energy company’s data centre can support a greenhouse throughout the year. The idea is simple, but powerful: reuse heat that would otherwise go to waste, and see what happens when farming moves closer to the people who need it.
By placing the greenhouse in the city and using existing heat resources, the project not only saves energy but also cuts down on transport, opening the door to more sustainable urban food production.
