Over the course of one week in July, 21 pieces of a comet named Shoemaker-Levy 9 rained down on Jupiter. Astronomers predicted it would happen, and were ready for it.
The best pictures came from the Hubble Space Telescope, and left observers breathless.
When the first piece of the comet, Fragment A, observers saw a dark formation thousands of kilometers wide. When the largest fragment, G, hit three days later,
it unleashed a force equal to 500,000,000 Hiroshima-type bombs.
What does this mean for us? Some say Earth could become a bullseye for a comet or an asteroid.
Carl Sagan, Cornell Univ. Astronomer: Chicken Little was mistaken, but, as Shoemaker-Levy 9 hitting Jupiter reminds us, there really are these objects in the sky, and they really do hit worlds.
Shoemaker-Levy 9 leaves behind a legacy: A mountain of data that will keep scientists busy for years.

But, when Mayor Giuliani went to the podium, so did Andrew.

And soon, he was upstaging his fathers no-nonsense message.

On a stormy April 5th, 1994 morning in Seattle, an electrician working at the million-dollar home of troubled grunge rock sensation Kurt Cobain makes an alarming discovery.
Vinette Tichi, Seattle Police: “When he looked inside he saw a man lying on the floor. It was obvious this man is dead from a shotgun wound to the head.”
Its Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, whose debut album Nevermind vaulted the band instant fame.
Michael Azerrad, Friend: “A month before that album came out they were practically nobody. A month after it came out, they were spokesmen for their generation.”
Cobains mother said hed been missing for six days, and, referring to the premature deaths of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix, she adds: “Now hes gone and joined that stupid Club.”
