Adventurous Heart - Rachel Nagle | A Porcupine is Born – Live Footage! @AdventurousHeartRachelNagle | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
Mawenzi, my pet African Crested porcupine, has had a few litters of porcupettes by now, but somehow she always manages to have them when I’m not around. This has left me wondering, “What exactly does it look like when a porcupine has porcupettes?” Fortunately, for one of her litters, I was just finishing up feeding them for the morning and noticed something different. Mawenzi was raising her quills non-aggressively and almost not on purpose. Could it be? Was Mawenzi having contractions? Yes, she sure was! I watched for another 30 minutes and was able to witness a live birth of a porcupine.
Because this was such a special moment for me and my prickle of porcupines, I wanted to release it during another special moment. This video is being published as a thank you for helping me reach 5,000 subscribers! If you are subscribed, thank you! If you haven’t subscribed yet, but want more AWESOME adventures, please consider subscribing.
Because I waited for the perfect opportunity to release this video (and because I had lots of footage to sort through), my guess is Mawenzi might even be getting ready to have another litter when this posts!
