Last November I painted a stained glass inspired pattern. On the same page in the reference book (The Grammar of Ornament from 1865 by Owen Jones) was this one, which I liked too. All it said is that it was from Southwell, Nottingham.
Over the Christmas break I wasn't far away from Southwell, so Tim, Domino and I took a trip to visit - and I found the piece of stained glass I was looking for - along with many other interesting things! It's a beautiful wee town with so much history packed into a few streets. If you visit, I recommend having lunch at the Chess Master cafe, where you can play board games and have delicious Armenian food! We spend a good couple of hours poking around the Minster and loved the intricate carvings and the fact that it's dog friendly! Having returned, I created a partner painting to the one I made in November for the month's pattern.
