Today I'm drawing a circular pattern design in fine liner pens in my sketchbook. I'd love it if you'd like to draw along with me! As I'm sketching I'm having a bit of an informal chat about my thoughts on making calming, peaceful art, get nostalgic about art I used to make, and share some ideas about where this channel is headed.
This design has some gothic inspiration and some celtic inspiration and there's ideas in there that can be traced back to islamic art too. I used to make a lot of mandalas before I thought about becoming a professional artist, and still love the process of setting up a circle structure in pencil, making divisions in the circle, and then filling those with shapes from the centre out. So that's what I've done here.

This project is part of my season of art tutorials themed around drawing, painting and printing patterns. These projects are for personal use only. Please do not sell any work copied exactly from my tutorials (though taking inspiration and developing it your own way is always encouraged!) and please credit me if you post work online that you've made from following a tutorial or using my downloadable line work.
