A Patch Of Old Snow - A poem by Robert Frost. About the poem - Frost says that when he first observed the dirty patch of snow, he mistook it for a piece of newspaper blown away by rain. He uses an old newspaper as a metaphor for a patch of old snow with grime and dust on it, since, the beauty of winter and yesterday's news are equally ignored and abandoned. About the poet - Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 -- January 29, 1963) was an American poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. One of the most popular and critically respected American poets of his generation, Frost was honored frequently during his lifetime, receiving four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry.

In Memoriam, [Ring out, wild bells] - A poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
About the poem - Ring Out, Wild Bells forms part of In Memoriam, Tennysons elegy to his sisters fiance, Arthur Henry Hallam, who died at the age of twenty-two. This poem was published in the year 1850, when Lord Tennyson was appointed Poet Laureate. Every year in Sweden this poem is recited at the national New Years Eve celebrations.
About the poet - Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809 1892) was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom during much of Queen Victorias reign. Tennyson was born in Somersby, Lincolnshire. Tennyson excelled at penning short lyrics. He is one of the most quoted poets in the English language.
