Await Further Instructions (2018) follows a dysfunctional family who gather for Christmas at their parents’ house, only to wake up the next morning and discover the home completely sealed off by a mysterious black, metallic substance blocking all exits. With no phone signal and no way to escape, their only source of information becomes the television, which suddenly begins broadcasting cryptic messages instructing them to follow specific orders “for their own safety.” As fear and paranoia escalate, the family begins obeying increasingly disturbing instructions, turning against one another under the belief that the messages are coming from the government to contain a supposed biological threat. As tensions explode and trust collapses, it becomes clear that the force controlling the house may not be human at all, leading to a horrifying realization that blind obedience can be more dangerous than the threat outside.
