Talk about joy! The recent schoolwide celebration we had for the Weill Foundation gift and school renaming was a moment for the community to spend time with the Weills, celebrate our successes, and look to the future. As Joan said at the event, “We believe in the people here. There's no way that we wouldn't want to be involved in this wonderful, wonderful place.”
The community received another big surprise at the event. Philanthropists Kathy Chiao and Ken Hao announced that they are giving $75 million to the school! The gift is benefiting the construction of the new small animal hospital, scholarships, translational medicine, and programs for those unable to afford veterinary care.
In this episode of A Minute with Mark, Dean Mark Stetter interviews Kathy and Ken about what inspired them to make their gift. At the heart of it is their belief in the veterinary community, in UC Davis, and in a better world for our animals.
Donors like Kathy, Ken, Joan, Sandy, and many of you are investing in the future of animal and human health. We are going to be able to accomplish great things, faster, through your generosity.
We did something unusual at the Weill celebration—we invited everyone to bring their pets. It took the joy level to 11! Joan and Sandy brought their Sweet Pea, and Kathy and Ken brought King King. King King always steals the show when he’s around, so we don’t think you’ll have any issues spotting him in the video.
