An experimental collaboration between music and animation, LEG brings together rhythm, movement, and visual storytelling to create a hypnotic audiovisual experience.

Blending striking animation with an original musical composition, the film explores how sound and image can evolve together, each shaping the other moment by moment.
Leg is a collaboration between animator and musician. The film was originally commissioned for LiveAV - an event held in Milwaukee, WI. For the event filmmakers were asked to complete a silent film with the intention of it being scored by a musician live. There was no communication between animator and musician before the event, resulting in a pure musical interpretation of the visuals. After the event animator, Lou Morton worked with the musician, Roman Ederisinghe to continue developing the score and visuals. As Roman added new musical elements, Lou would add new animations. The result is more like a jam session between two artists rather than one artist commissioning another for a score.
Lou Morton animated about half of the sequences on paper, with some of the coloring done on paper using various markers. Some sequences were taken into Photoshop and colored digitally, while others were animated entirely in TVPaint. No AI was used at any point in the production.
Lou Morton is an animator, educator and filmmaker. His recent work explores industrialized capitalism and its environmental impacts. His other interests include visual music and science visualization. His short films have screened at festivals including SXSW, Sundance, AFI, Ann Arbor, Annecy and Pictoplasma. He has worked for clients including Disney, AirBnB, MTV, HBO, and TedED. Louis brings his experience to the classroom at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, where he teaches animation.
