Hook and Sip — Week One: A Cotton Top for Summer 🧶☕🌸
Welcome back to Hook and Sip! This week we’re starting something a little different — I’m going to begin creating my own crocheted summer top design in 100% cotton, and you’re coming along for the entire design process!
For Week One, we’re concentrating on two very important things: getting the sizing right for the person the top is being made for, and becoming familiar with the stitch I’ve designed and chosen for this project.
This is the same stitch I previously designed for the sleeve of my Mrs Weasley Cardigan, so I’ll be showing you how that stitch is created and getting you familiar with how it works before we start building the top.
If everything goes according to plan, we should be able to get our starting chain and first row completed during this episode. From there, we’ll build the design week by week and see where this little experiment takes us!
🧶 Make It Your Way
One of the things I love about designing your own crochet is that you get to make the choices.
Although I’m designing this version in 100% cotton as a summer top, you don't have to use cotton if that's not what you want.
You can use any yarn you like, together with the appropriate hook size for that yarn.
Want something lightweight and cool for summer? Go for it!
Want to make the design heavier and thicker so it works for autumn? That's completely up to you!
The idea is to create a design that can be adapted to your yarn, your recipient and your preferences.
📐 The Pattern
Once I have finished the complete item and tested the design, the written pattern will be made available through my Ravelry patterns for a small charge.
That way, we're able to work through the design process together first, and I can make sure the finished pattern works properly before making it available.
