Funding from Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme will support many of Kent Wildlife Trust’s conservation projects, including efforts to reinforce the River Stour’s wild beaver population.
Wild beavers have been present in Kent for over a decade, demonstrating how they can become a normalised part of our landscapes. Introducing new genetic diversity will support the long-term resilience of Kent’s beavers and will be guided by the beaver studbook, which we use to track known familial relationships of translocated individuals and their offspring.
Thoughtful planning and collaboration are key to supporting healthy, resilient wild beavers across mainland Britain. We look forward to working with @kentwildlife Trust, @naturalenglandvideo, the East Kent Beaver Advisory Group, @thesoutheastriverstrust3856, the North East Kent Farmer Cluster and the @UniversityofKent (Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology) to help secure the future of beavers in Kent.
