This Lohri, we celebrate the passing of the winter solstice and the great Sikh leader Ranjit Singh, who is said to have distributed clothes and large sums of money as rewards during the festival in 1836.

In 1831, one of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s generals dazzled the British governor-general of Bengal with 800 warriors, each wearing helmets like this.
