7029 Clun Castle is given a reprieve of some sorts as it headed the final Shakespeare Express of 2025. Last week, 7029 hauled it's farewell special on what was deemed it's last run before being withdrawn for overhaul/heavy maintenance , so passengers and linesiders were rather surprised to see it at the front of the final Shakespeare Express of 2025. With the final Shakespeare run starting from Worcester and a return run along the North Warwick Line, this gave me the impetus to get out early on Sunday, and not just any Sunday, it was remembrance Sunday.
Now, if this is Clun Castle's last run ? It definitely finished with a fine performance and sounding absolutely tip top. Just the four locations feature and the video starts off at Kidderminster where the Castle powers past the adjacent Severn Valley Railway and through the mainline station. A few miles further up the line, the Castle is seen passing through Blakedown and then Churchill. The final two scenes see 7029 upping the power with a high speed pass through Lapworth. The final scene captures the sight and sound of a Great Western Castle accelerating hard towards Birmingham, and what a glorious sound she made pounding up the grade.
