Coconuts TV | A final walk through one of Singapore's oldest (and now disappearing) neighborhoods | Coconuts TV @CoconutsTV | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 19 hours ago
Take a final walk with us through Tanglin Halt, one of Singapore’s oldest neighborhoods, before it disappears — led by our own Coconuts Singapore Managing Editor Nurul Azliah, who grew up there.
In this stroll down memory lane, Nurul will show you the very parking space where her parents got married and the railway track where she had to get away from by sunset as to avoid seeing any ghosts like Pontianak.
What she loved the most about growing up there was the communal spirit. Nurul’s grandma and her friends would greet each other from across the block and you would see kids playing football downstairs even though they didn’t go to school together. She also recalls getting groceries delivered from the local minimart even before that was a thing!
Tanglin Halt is one of Singapore’s oldest public housing neighborhoods that was built in the ‘60s. Around 60 years later, this place will disappear. With the market being the last to go in 2024.
Similar to the many places that have disappeared in Singapore - like Pearl Bank Apartments and Dakota - it’s sad to see this one go too.
