In Russia’s far eastern region of Kamchatka, one family chose to leave behind the Soviet world and return to the forest.
Their ancestors were reindeer herders who lived on this land for generations, until Soviet collectivization forced them into state farms. After the collapse of the USSR, Ivan’s mother made a radical decision: to bring her family back to the taiga and rebuild a life rooted in older traditions.
Today, with no running water or electricity, the family lives from the river, the forest, and the knowledge passed down across generations.
This documentary follows their summer return to Tvaïan, where post-Soviet survival, ancestral memory, and rural life in Kamchatka come together in one extraordinary family story.
