Today, I’m taking you along with me through the beautiful streets of Thessaloniki on October 28th, a national holiday in Greece. On this day, we celebrate Oxi Day—also known as the “Day of No”—an important moment in modern Greek history. Every year on October 28th, Greeks commemorate the day in 1940 when Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas stood up to Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, rejecting his ultimatum and marking Greece’s entry into World War II.
In Thessaloniki, we celebrate with an impressive military parade, and I’ll be showing you that in today’s video. Afterward, we’ll take a relaxed stroll along the seafront and learn some Greek vocabulary together.
