We went behind the scenes with #UofT Beekeeping Enthusiast Education Society (UofT BEES) to find out – and it turns out beekeeping on is way more than just cool suits. There’s real science behind keeping a bee colony alive.
The student-run club is teaming up with chemical and electrical engineering students to design a winter monitoring system that’ll track temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide in the hives. Winter in Toronto is unpredictable and one bad storm or cold snap can threaten the colony’s survival. If they bees don’t make it through the winter, the club has to start over from scratch. So when they do survive, it's a celebration!
