The US is rapidly embracing AI as a new engine of scientific discovery. US Department of Energy Undersecretary for Science Darío Gil will join AEI’s Chris Miller for a conversation on how federal investment is shaping AI-enabled research.
They will explore how federal investments in super-computing and national laboratories have helped transform AI into national scientific infrastructure and how initiatives like the Genesis Mission build on earlier efforts. The discussion will consider whether
early public investment was driven by competitiveness or strategic foresight and whether using AI for scientific research places it alongside semiconductors as a critical national capability. Mr. Miller and Undersecretary Gil will also examine scaling challenges,
