The Trump administration’s Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education sparked an overdue conversation about the relationship between universities and the federal government. The administration identified critical issues, but its prescriptions prompted concerns—even from sympathetic observers. The result has created an opening for more workable alternatives rooted in legislative authority.
To that end, AEI’s Frederick M. Hess commissioned reports from several of the right’s leading higher ed thinkers, asking each to offer a blueprint for how to most effectively pursue the compact’s various priorities. In this web event, Dr. Hess and four of the contributors will discuss what it will take for states and federal officials to deliver on the compact’s admirable ambitions.
