Edit to add: I have received comments and DMs about the portion I empathize with Peterson. I can't edit this video, but maybe future people will see this first.

I don't feel like I know what the best way to deal with harmful or offensive arguments is. I personally support minimizing the reach the arguments have, and feel like part of that is taking the ideas head on and analyzing/critiquing them (hence this series). I worry about providing people with ammo to build up a martyr narrative that lets them sell themselves as oppressed by the libs or whatever the current saying is. That is part of why I had the reaction I did in this video - the actions taken by the protestors fits his "silenced by the left" narrative perfectly. I also worry that quarantining ideas will lead to those ideas being more enticing to someone who is starting out doing things for the lolz before digging and committing to the more destructive ideas.

But the arguments and ideas absolutely need to be challenged. And having allies to stand up for marginalized, minority groups and push back against harmful ideas does send a statement.

And this video was written and recorded with only the Overture under my belt. My sympathy towards Peterson in this situation has catastrophically diminished, and I'm only halfway through the book at this point.

So, yeah. I hear you guys. I don't quite know what my exact thoughts or feelings are on deplatforming (have conflicting opinions, if I'm honest). I definitely am horrified by some of the discourse happening in the US (and elsewhere) right now, and am worried about the next election. I think I heard it described as Russian optimism once: it can always get worse. But that's part of why we're doing this deep lobster dive. Question the validity of the logic and science used in his arguments at the source.

Also, I am now aware Maps of Meaning can be acquired easily. Thank you.

This week we are starting Jordan B. Peteron's "12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos." Ooh boy. In this chapter of the book, we learn about the history of the book and what I think some central themes will be.

Note: the brain worms got me and I mispronounced 'tyrant' repeatedly. I am sorry. But not so sorry I'm reshooting those at this point. Also, apologies about my voice in some places: it was trying to quit on me.
