In this talk, radiation oncologist–turned–metabolic health practitioner Christy Kesslering presents what she describes as the first published case of a ketogenic diet reversing a persistent chylothorax after lung surgery. She walks through how chylomicrons, lymphatic flow, and insulin resistance may intersect in this rare complication, and how standard low-fat recommendations compare with a high-fat ketogenic approach. Using the case of a 61-year-old woman with obesity, endometriosis, and an exceedingly rare primary pulmonary meningioma, she explains how a high-fat keto diet coincided with the resolution of repeated pleural effusions that had been headed toward invasive interventions. The speaker makes the case that ketogenic diets can improve triglycerides, HDL, and inflammatory markers in ways that may alter lymphatic physiology and clinical outcomes in select patients.
