Shaving Cream
INGREDIENTS
2/3 cup shea butter
2/3 coconut oil
1/4 cup olive, almond, jojoba or grapeseed oil
10-20 drops of your favorite essential oils/oil blend
2 tablespoons of baking soda
A couple shakes of vitamin E oil (the content of 2 capsules)
DIRECTIONS
Set a double boiler over high heat until the water is boiling, turn the heat to low. Combine the coconut and shea butter in the top of your double boiler, stirring until melted. Remove from heat and stir in the olive oil. Once your ingredients are combined place the bowl it in the fridge to set up.
Once your mixture has solidified, remove it from the refrigerator. Add in 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. I like lavender/chamomile, pine/orange, geranium, yang ylang, chamomile/lemonverbena/spearmint, rose/vanilla, pine or cassia/orange to give you an idea, but go with your favorite scent. Add in the baking soda and vitamin E, whip until light and fluffy. You’ll need an electric mixer for this.
When your oil has whipped up into light peaks and resembles whipped cream, immediately transfer your shaving cream to your jars and allow it to set up for 24 hours.
The shaving cream keeps for several months, but around here it doesn’t last that long.
This is an oil based shaving cream, which is very emollient and moisturizing. I can use it on my legs and not need lotion afterwards. Glenn uses it on his face and prefers this to detergent or foam based products, as it eliminates the drying effects of foaming agents traditionally used in shaving creams. A little dab goes a long way so you will use less product than you normally would. The only drawback is that it does produce a slippery residue in the sink/shower, so you’ll want to give the surface a quick wipe down with hot soapy water.
