Hey, CMI, the call is coming from inside the the house. Creationism IS a conspiracy theory.
This is a lot like that time they promoted vaccination and then a bunch of their audience got REALLY mad. I'm going to respond to a few important parts, especially about seven minutes at the end where he specifically talks about our recent debate on Junk DNA (from May of 2024).

Altruistic behavior is a tricky one for evolution, right? How do you explain selection for a thing that reduces the fitness of the individuals who do it? Turns out, we have a pretty darn good answer, and it's really, really cool. This is part two in my three-part series of topics adapted from my real classes. This may not seem related to part one (virulence), but I promise you it is, and we'll see how in part three.

Virulence refers to the property of a pathogenic organism causing disease symptoms. In other words, if something is virulent, it makes you sick. In this first part of a three-part series lightly modified from portions of my real classes, we're going to look and the evolutionary dynamics around virulence, the hypotheses proposed to explain it, and what are probably the correct explanations.
This is going to be a bit different from my usual fare. We're going to treat this more or less like I'm teaching a class. You know what we won't talk about? Creationism. This is all about one of my favorite dynamics in evolution, how it works, and how we know.

This happened. Backstory in the video, but basically I got the attention of "intelligent design" (aka creationist, sorry, cdesign proponentsists) think tank Discovery Institute and we've been chatting about it for a couple of months. I even had a debate with one of their Ph.D.s, Dr. Casey Luskin.
And since then, Discovery Institute has been trying to gaslight everyone into thinking they *didn't* change their argument after the debate, when they totally did.
They've had quite a bit to say post-debate, and while I've released a few shorter post-debate videos, this is my big wrap-up. Enjoy.

This is that debate in full. The takeaway is this: Yes, the human genome is mostly (80-90%) junk DNA, that is, DNA that does not have a function.
By the end of this debate, Dr. Luskin had revised his argument somewhat, and if creationists use *that* version of the argument going forward, they'll be a lot less wrong about junk DNA.

Like most (I think all) ID creationists, Dr. Luskin argues that the human genome is mostly functional, and "junk DNA" is an outdated concept that's falling by the wayside, and this is supported by the weight of current data.
But at the end of our conversation, he said...not that. Take a look.

The geniuses at Standing for Truth decided to "respond" to that video in a FOUR HOUR stream, of which very little actually had anything to do with pedigree mutation rates and even less was spent addressing the problems I raised. This bit of the conversation was on lactase persistence. Creationists are going to keep trying to find ways to explain away an obvious new beneficial trait as somehow not that. The thing I want to point out here is NOT how uninformed Rawmatt is (though please do note how uninformed Rawmatt is). The thing I want to point out is the disservice professional YECs do when they present these easy-to-refute arguments to their non-scientific audience, who then repeats them. And then when that audience encounters people who know better, this is what happens. Enjoy, but also remember to blame here. This is Jeanson's fault, not Rawmatt's.

We're not going to get into here - done that elsewhere, as have other people. The fact is junk DNA is very real.
But here, we're dealing with a thing creationists say that's related, and completely wrong. And they can stop saying it and it doesn't affect their arguments at all! They can just stop lying. But they don't.
In this video we look at the claim that biologists originally thought that all non-protein-coding DNA was "junk DNA".
This is not the case, for a very simple reason, as you'll see.

Not sure what this channel is about? This video is for you. The "welcome to the channel" video I shot way back in June of 2020 is both not very good and also somewhat outdated - I've since done different things that I hadn't even thought of back then!
Basically, I'm an evolutionary biologist who tells you how and why creationist arguments are wrong, with a focus on evolution and genetics. In my main ongoing series, I tackle the major creationist talking points one by one, and I also do book reviews of creationist books, literature reviews of creationist papers (and "papers"), respond directly to critics, point out the contradictory arguments creationists make, host panel discussions with other science and evolution and anti-creationist youtubers, and best of all: long, in-depth interviews with professional, credentialed creationists.
If you're at all curious about the arguments creationists make and why they're wrong, you can find out here.

That amorphous concept. The original things that were separately created, from which all the things that exist today supposedly evolved once the Ark landed on dry ground.
YECs have been trying to figure out how to determine how many kinds and what they were for decades. Well, I've got the answer right here, and they're not going to like it. We can use genetics to concretely ID the "kinds". The problem is..."kinds" are fake. All cellular life is the same kind. All cellular life shares common ancestry. This video explains how to determine "kinds", and how actually doing it disproves the whole concept.

Sure to be a fun show.
