The inspiration came from this after finally deciding to read The Language of Thorns on a whim and I just fell in LOVE with Ulla and her story + Zoe Kravitz as her fancast. (whoever came up with this is a genius and I need to kiss you gfhgk) If you haven't read Ulla's story (When Water Sang Fire) it's basically a Little Mermaid retelling (Ulla as Ursula) and she meets a young Darkling and finds out they're brother and sister. This is my own AU that takes place around Ruin & Rising where they reuinite after The Darkling "returns" and basically join forces and ascend to power. Anything with young long-haired Ben is meant to be flashbacks when they first met. The endingg is when he shows her the mirror and realizes they're related. I approached Laura about a collab about a week ago since I fell in love with her videos. She has such an effortless, simple, and mesmerizing editing style. I've always wanted to collab but never found another editor whose style I thought would mesh well with mine, until Laura. From the get go it was such a dream to work with her, from choosing a song, to creating a coloring, and hashing out our ideas. We decided to do something ~aesthetic~ for the first time and incorporate book quotes. From the start of our process we were so in sync and had the same vision, which came together so fast because of the level of inspiration and excitement we both felt.
