Poland's Solidarity Trade Union leader welcomes overturn of government ban (About two weeks after this the Round Table talks began between the communist government and Solidarity which ended with the Round Table Agreement on April 6th, 1989. This agreement legalized independent trade unions like Solidarity, introduced the office of an elected President and the allowed the formation of a senate. After the election of Solidarity candidates in June and a non-communist prime minister that September, communist party rule in Poland came to an end after 45 years and was one of the dominoes that led to the fall of the Soviet Union)
