The Twin Cities has seen only trace amounts of rainfall since the latter portion of August. While other areas of the Midwest saw plentiful amounts of rain during the low pressure system that stalled over the area for 12 days in September, the Twin Cities area received a few minor sprinkles.
October has remained quite dry and unseasonably warm; about 20 degrees above average for this time of year, having hit 80 nearly every day so far this month. On Wednesday, the temperature reached 88 degrees in Minneapolis and 89 in St. Paul, breaking records in both cities (see previous video "Fun with the WeatherSTAR 3000 during record heat). Today's high was 83... not high enough to tie or break the record of 87 set in 2010.
On October 9th, we set another record ... having hit our 8th day of 80 degree temperatures in a row in the month of October... and another 80 degree day is not out of the question within the next week.
Due to the dry conditions, much of the state has been under 'Red Flag' fire watches during breezy periods.
