Quick recap
The team discussed their recent work, including updates to their lab, challenges with updating their OS, and potential shifts from Petalinux to Yocto. They also explored the limitations of their Dsp multipliers, the potential of AI and ML in EDA applications, and the importance of precise power measurements in their communications system. Lastly, they shared their ongoing work with the Deep Space Society, the challenges of finding high power at higher frequencies, and the upcoming Earth-Venus-Earth bounce attempt.

Next steps
Aaron to continue working on the board support package in OpenCPI for the ZC706, and JESD204 interface on the AD9371.

Aaron to continue debugging and improving the C implementation of Opulent Voice to reduce the bit error rate.

Aaron to update his HDL repository with the latest MSK implementation of Opulent Voice.

Matthew to integrate the IQ power measurement block into the top level of the modem.

Matthew to test the modem with Pluto to Pluto communication.

Matthew to continue surveying papers related to HDL and EDA applications.

Michelle to submit the RTTY receiver paper to QEX.

Michelle to continue developing skills in iterative receiver techniques for potential application to MSK.

Ken to document the work with the Polyphase filter.

Lab Updates and System Challenges
Aaron discussed his recent updates to his lab, including the transition to Ubuntu 22.04 and the progress he's made with the OpenCPI board support package for the ZC706. He also shared his work on the opulent voice implementation and the challenges he's faced with the bit error rate. Aaron also mentioned his plans to update his HDL repository with the latest opulent voice implementation and his interest in becoming proficient in CW and ham radio. Matthew confirmed that they have a working GTK environment on their VMs. The team agreed to continue monitoring the situation and making necessary updates to their systems.

Yocto Implementation and IQ Power Measurement
Abraxas3d and Aaron discussed the potential shift from Petalinux to Yocto for their implementation, with Aaron confirming that Yocto is already used under the hood. Abraxas3d mentioned that they had build notes from Phil Ballister, who is involved with Yocto, and planned to attempt a build for embedded Linux using his recipes. Matthew then shared his recent work on implementing an IQ power measurement, which involves an exponential moving average filter. He expressed satisfaction with the results and planned to integrate it into the modem. He also suggested that someone could play around with the block and implement shifters for further exploration.

DSP Multipliers and MSK Modem Plans
Matthew discussed the limitations of the Dsp multipliers, which are currently limited to a 25 by 18 resolution. He shared his positive results from simulating a sine wave input and its square value output. He also mentioned his plans to try a Pluto to Pluto connection and potentially use a software Msk for transmission or reception via a hack Rf. He expressed interest in broadening the scope of their Msk modem by potentially interoperating with the Yardstick One, a hardware stick with a Ti chip. He suggested this could be a good learning experience for someone interested in on-ramping.

Exploring HDL and Eda Applications
Matthew discussed his ongoing survey of papers related to Hdl and Eda applications, particularly focusing on code generation and analog design. He suggested exploring some of the papers for potential practical applications.

Power Measurements and Signal Demodulation
This transcript discusses power measurements in a communications system. Matthew explains that the receive signal strength indicator (RSSI) gives an idea of the received power at the front end, but a more precise power measurement within the modem itself is valuable for controlling the analog-to-digital converter loading and automatic gain control. Abraxas3d agrees and sees the modem power measurement as a useful general instrumentation block. Matthew confirms it can be a standalone component along with an exponential moving average filter.

Ken reported that he has been busy at work but has become more proficient with Git, which he believes will be beneficial for his projects. He expressed his gratitude for the training bed provided by Ori and his intention to find a balance between work and contributions to the team. Ken also mentioned his focus on documenting his work with the Polyphase filter.

Antenna Characterization and Pulsar Detection
Rick discussed the ongoing work with the Deep Space Society, focusing on antenna characterization and the introduction of new frequencies for detecting pulsars and magnetars. He also mentioned the upcoming Earth-Venus-Earth bounce attempt, which will involve a kilowatt at 1296 into the 60-foot dish. Rick highlighted the challenge of finding high power at higher frequencies, suggesting that they might need to build it themselves.
