Wagner Leitmotifs | 67 Reproach : Der Ring Des Nibelungen @wagnerleitmotifs7654 | Uploaded August 2013 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
This leitmotif is first heard in act 3 scene 3 of Die Walkure.
This motif represents Brunhilde, daughter of Wotan, as she reproaches him for condeming her for carrying out his original wishes, despite his countermand which he gave in spite of his greater desire. This motif is played in a very sombre melancholy way because Brunhilde is wretched under the gaze of Wotan, who sees her as a disobedient child. It contains part of the Spear motif which is constantly defied by leaps upwards. It is an inversion of Wotan's Frustration.
