6.0 powerstroke head gasket failure - my symptoms and diagnosis. So while we were in Utah towing our 13k lb 5th wheel when going up hills the truck would go from 190 degrees up to 230. So I replaced the degas cap then the thermostat and then the mech fan clutch. None of these fixed the issue. After taking the truck apart I found head gasket failure, so exhaust gases were getting into the degas bottle. So I loosened the degas cap and drove more to find out with the cap loose the truck would not over heat. So it was hard to diagnose because on flat roads the truck wouldn’t over heat just on hills.
